A 57-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving after police reportedly spotted a man leave a licenced establishment and get into his vehicle on Sunday evening.

On patrol in the area of Woodlawn Road East, officers conducted a traffic stop and detected an odour of alcoholic beverage coming from the driver, states a police news release.

The driver then failed a roadside breath test and was taken to the police station for additional testing, which confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

In addition to the impaired driving charge laid, the man’s licence to drive was automatically suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for a week.
