After coming “close” to the legal limit for alcohol in his system, a 41-year-old truck driver from Kitchener was issued a three-day licence suspension on Tuesday morning.

Police were called to the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Arthur Street North in The Ward shortly after 9 a.m. where a truck had knocked down a telephone cable.

While speaking with the driver, an officer detected an odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath, states a Guelph Police news release. At that point he was asked to provide a breath sample on a roadside screening device.

The driver reportedly registered an “alert,” meaning he had close to the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

As a result, the driver faces several Highway Traffic Act charges and had his licence automatically suspended for three days.
