Truck in a ditch leads to drug charges for two

There were no injuries as a result of the accident but both occupants of the vehicle have been charged

TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON - On July 2, 2019 just before 3 a.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision involving a pickup truck in the ditch on Wellington Road 86 south of Side Road 15.

Investigation revealed that the truck and occupants had been involved in several traffic-related incidents in a neighbouring OPP county where they failed to stop for police earlier that morning. The driver and passenger were taken into custody. Officers located a small amount of methamphetamine inside the vehicle during the search subsequent to arrest.

Michael Hancock, 27-years-old of North Perth Township, has been charged with possession of methamphetamine contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Aug. 6, 2019 to answer to the charge.

Kaitlyn Fear, 19-years-old of Guelph, has been charged with possession of methamphetamine contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and fail to comply with officer in charge undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code. 

The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal court on Aug. 6, 2019 to answer to the charges, however, was turned over at the scene, to another policing jurisdiction on the strength of an outstanding warrant.   

The occupants were not injured as a result of the collision.
