Two motorists were arrested for impaired driving in separate incidents this weekend in Guelph, report Guelph police.

On Friday, approximately 4:40 p.m., police observed a vehicle in the Woodlawn/Hanlon area being driven erratically and almost collide with another vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted and the officer could detect an odour of alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath.

The driver was arrested and taken to the police station, where testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system. A 24-year-old Burlington male is charged with impaired driving and several Highway Traffic Act offences. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Saturday morning, approximately 10:30 a.m., police were called to a plaza on Speedvale Avenue East where a witness reported a female driver he believed to be impaired. Officers arrived just after the vehicle had left, but located it at the owner’s address a short distance away.

The female driver had a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on her breath and was showing other signs of impairment. She registered a fail on a roadside screening device and was arrested. Further testing at the police station confirmed she had more than the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

A 59-year-old Guelph woman is charged with impaired operation. Her driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days.
