Two drivers issued distracted driving tickets

On Dec. 17, 2018 from 7:45 a.m. until 9:15 a.m., members of D Platoon conducted cell phone enforcement at Norfolk Street and MacDonell Street. Five vehicles were stopped and as a result, two distracted driving tickets, one failing to surrender a permit ticket, and two failing to surrender insurance tickets were issued.

Guelph Police would like to remind the public that a distracted driving ticket comes with a $490 fine and three demerit points. Starting Jan. 1, 2019 if you are caught with a cell phone you will be summonsed to court. If convicted for the first time, it comes with a fine of up to $1,000. A second conviction could mean a fine up to $2,000 and seven-day licence suspension. A third conviction could mean up to a $3,000 fine and a 30-day suspension.
