Two face impaired driving charges in unrelated incidents

Officers responded to Woolwich Street for a report of a driver drinking behind the wheel

On Aug. 3, 2020 at approximately 3:25 p.m., Police attended to a local business on Woolwich Street in regard to a report of a male drinking an open can of alcohol in his vehicle while driving in the parking lot. When Police arrived on scene, the subject motor vehicle was no longer in the area. Police attended to the registered owner’s home address where the driver was located and spoken to. As a result of the incident, the accused provided a sample of his breath into an approved screening device which registered as a 'fail.

A 56-year-old Guelph male was subsequently arrested for operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration. He was transported to the Guelph Police Service and further released on an appearance notice with a court date of Nov. 17, 2020 at 9 a.m.

On Aug. 1, 2020 at approximately 6:59 p.m., while conducting speed enforcement on Paisley Road, officers observed a Honda van travelling at higher rate of speed than the posted 50 km/hr limit. A traffic stop was conducted and as a result the officer determined that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle may be impaired. The driver provided a suitable sample of his breath into an approved screening device and a 'fail' was registered.

As a result of the incident, a 42-year-old male from Breslau was charged with operation while impaired, operation while 80 plus, speeding, and having open liquor in a vehicle. He was further released on an undertaking and is expected to appear in court on Sept. 1, 2020.
