Two Guelph men were arrested for impaired driving over the weekend, including one found passed out in a parking lot.

Just after 12:30 p.m. Saturday, police were called to a parking lot near Victoria Road South and Clair Road East. A caller advised a car was stuck in the deep snow with the tires just spinning. Officers arrived a short time later to find the vehicle had been turned off and the male was passed out in the driver’s seat.

Officers woke the man and detected an odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath. They said they were taking prescription medication and appeared impaired, with slurred speech and slow movements.

A 45-year-old is charged with impaired operation.

Approximately 2:15 a.m. Monday, officers patrolling in the area of Paisley Street and Edinburgh Road noted a vehicle repeatedly crossing the centre line and conducted a traffic stop.

Officers detected an odour of alcoholic beverage coming from within the vehicle and asked the driver to provide a breath sample. After repeatedly failing to provide a suitable sample into a roadside device, the man was arrested and transported to the station where he continued to refuse to provide a sample.

A 32-year-old is charged with impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample.
