Two impaired charges on the weekend

Two males were arrested in Guelph this weekend, including one who fled following a collision downtown.

Approximately 10:20 p.m. Friday police were notified of a minor hit and run collision at Wyndham Street North and Macdonell Street. The involved vehicles were located a short time later on Ontario Street. While speaking to the drivers, officers noted one had an odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath.

The male failed a roadside test and was returned to the police station, where further testing revealed he had three times the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 27-year-old Niagara Region male is charged with impaired operation and failing to remain at a collision. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday, police were notified of a possible impaired driver in the area of Cambridge Street and Glasgow Street North. Officers arrived and located a male sitting in a vehicle with the keys still in the ignition.

Officers detected signs of impairment and an odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath. The male was arrested and taken to the police station, where tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 24-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired operation.
