Vehicle stolen in Winnipeg found during Guelph-area RIDE check

Two occupants face charges

TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA - On Oct. 31, 2020, members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check on Paisley Road near Township Road 1 in Guelph-Eramosa Township.

At approximately 3:45 p.m., a grey passenger van entered the RIDE check. While speaking with the occupants, officers discovered improper plates attached to the vehicle.

Further Investigation revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen in 2017 from Winnipeg, Man. The two occupants were subsequently arrested.

Abel Solomon Nigussie, 32 years old of Winnipeg, Man. has been charged with:
    •    Possession of property obtained by a crime contrary to the Criminal Code
    •    Drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act
    •    Use plate not authorized for vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Rene Valladares Ramos, 37 years old of Kitchener has been charged with:
    •    Occupant of motor vehicle taken without consent contrary to the Criminal Code
    •    Have open container of liquor in vehicle contrary to the Liquor Licence Act

Both accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph on Dec. 4, 2020 to answer to the charges.
