A Guelph male faces weapons charges following a confrontation Wednesday with staff at a downtown business.

Around noon, the male was found sleeping inside a business from which he has been trespassed. As he was gathering his belongings to leave at the request of staff, a knife approximately 25 centimetres long fell from his pocket to the floor. The male reportedly commented he should attack the staff person with the knife before picking it up and leaving the business.

The male was not on scene when Guelph Police Service officers arrived a short time later, but he was arrested Thursday morning when he again returned to the same business. The knife was seized following his arrest.

A 23-year-old male of no fixed address is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats, trespassing, breaching a bail condition and two counts of breaching probation. He also has outstanding charges before the courts including assault and mischief. He was held in custody for a bail hearing Friday.
