Guelph Police responded to 152 calls for service

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

COVID-19 fraud alerts and tips
The Guelph Police Service would like to make everyone aware that unfortunately scams in relation to COVID-19 are circulating both online and over the phone. For COVID-19 fraud alerts and tips please visit here.

The Guelph Police Service also recommends that members of the public:
Be wary of any business, charity or individual requesting payments in cash, by wire transfer, gift card or through the mail.
    •    Never share your personal or financial information over email, text message or over the phone.
    •    Know that government agencies will never call you to ask for money.

Please report all suspected fraud to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and the Guelph Police Service at 519-824-1212.   

Residential break-in investigation leads to arrests
On March 23, 2020 at 6:54 a.m., an adult male superintendent of a residential complex located near the intersection of Waterloo Avenue and Edinburgh Road South in the City of Guelph observed an adult male and an adult female enter the complex’s parking garage and attempt to open vehicle doors. The superintendent confronted them and requested them to leave. The male immediately left, however before leaving the female spit in the superintendent’s face.

Police were able to identify the involved parties through further investigation.

On March 24 at 9:09 a.m., police located the male and female at an apartment building in the downtown core and they were subsequently arrested.

A 28-year-old Guelph female has been charged with:
    •    Break and enter with intent
    •    Assault

A 42-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:
    •    Break and enter with intent
    •    Breach probation

They will both appear in court on June 5.

Shoplifting investigation leads to arrest
On January 31, 2020 at 8:50 p.m., [it is alleged that] an adult male entered a store located near the intersection of Woodlawn Road West and Woolwich Street in the City of Guelph. He selected two gaming consoles (valued at $429.96), ran out of the store through a fire exit, got in to a waiting vehicle and fled the scene.

Police were able to identify the male through further investigation.

On March 24 at 1:30 p.m., police located the male and he was subsequently arrested.

A 30-year-old Guelph male has been charged with theft under $5,000.

He will appear in court on June 2.
