Crime Prevention Week - preventing crime, protecting people
The Guelph Police Service would like to remind citizens that the best defence against the crime of fraud is prevention through education and awareness. Crime Prevention week in Ontario started on Nov. 3, 2019, and runs through to Nov. 9, 2019. The provincial theme is ‘Preventing Crime, Protecting People.’

The Guelph Police Service receives complaints surrounding fraudulent schemes such as identity theft/fraud, romance scams, advance fee scams, cheque fraud and many scams involving the use of the internet and computers. In order to combat this type of crime, the Guelph Police Service Fraud Unit regularly participates in community meetings and presentations to increase awareness and prevention of fraud. Members of the community who would be interested in having the Fraud Unit present on these topics to a community group can contact an officer in the Fraud Unit at: 519-824-1212 ext. 7470. Contact information can be left with the answering service of that extension and a fraud officer will respond to inquire about possible dates and times for a presentation.
