Wednesday safety enforcement results in 51 charges: OPP

On Wednesday, April 7, 2021 members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police Traffic Management Unit conducted a targeted traffic safety enforcement initiative in the Township of Centre Wellington.

This traffic safety initiative focused primarily on commercial motor vehicle offences and the 'Big 4' offences (speeding/aggressive drive, distracted driving, impaired driving and seatbelt usage), which are the most common contributing factors to death, serious injury and property damage on our roads and highways. 

Officers laid a total of 51 charges during the course of this traffic safety initiative:

  • Commercial motor vehicle offences: 29
  • Speeding: 12
  • Distracted driving: 2
  • Fail to properly wear seatbelt: 2
  • Other highway traffic act offences: 6
  • Total warnings: 6

Three commercial motor vehicles were taken out of service due to critical safety defects.

Members of the Wellington County OPP Traffic Management Unit will be conducting multiple one-day targeted traffic safety initiatives in different communities throughout Wellington County.
