HARRISTON – Local crime stoppers and OPP are renewing the call for information on an unsolved abduction and death, now with an increased financial reward that leads to an arrest and conviction.

On Tuesday, Wellington OPP and Crime Stoppers Guelph-Wellington (CSGW) put out a call for public assistance to solve the death of Jason John Brown, a 43-year-old man from Kitchener, four years after he was last seen ... in Wellington County.

Wellington OPP media officer Jacob Unger explained in a Twitter video Brown was abducted from the Harriston Cemetery on Jessie Street on March 12, 2019 at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Brown was transported to the Durham region and his body was found the next day by Durham Police north of Whitby.

Suspects were seen near the Harriston Cemetery around the time of the abduction and Wellington OPP say they have identified three vehicles of interest: a light-coloured Chevrolet Cruze, a light-coloured Chrysler 300 and a dark-coloured minivan.

Unger said in the video the government is offering a $50,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible in this abduction and death.

CSGW is also upping its cash rewards given for tips. A media release from CSGW stated given the nature of the case, the reward has been increased to $5,000 from the usual $2,000.

"Someone out there knows about the abduction and death of Jason Brown,” said Steve Thomas, Wellington OPP detachment commander, in a media release.

”OPP investigators continue to work tirelessly following up on leads and tips from the public, and I am calling on the members of our community to help us bring those responsible for Jason's death to justice. If you saw something that night or have any information you think our investigators should know, call us right away."

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Wellington County OPP Crime Unit at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call CSGW at 1-800-222-8477 or submit a tip online.
