A 36-year-old Guelph woman faces several charges following an incident Tuesday that reportedly saw her punch an 85-year-old man several times then later bite a Guelph police officer.

Police say that at 3:30 p.m., an 85-year-old man was inside his apartment near the intersection of Willow Road and Edinburgh Road North. An adult female friend of his roommate was also in the apartment. While in the living room, he observed that she was intoxicated and agitated. When he made a comment about her intoxication, she began yelling at him and ultimately punched him multiple times. He sustained lacerations on his head and hand.

Police say that after the assault, the man sat in a living room chair, unable to leave as the woman continued pacing back and forth in the living room. Once the woman left the living room, the male left the apartment and the Guelph Police Service was contacted for assistance at 5:04 p.m.

The man was transported to the Guelph General Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

At 5:45 p.m., police located the female walking near the intersection of Delhi Street and Eramosa Road. When officers tried to arrest her, she attempted to punch them and subsequently bit one of the officers on the hand.

The officer was taken to the Guelph General Hospital for treatment.

She was ultimately arrested for:

- Assault cause bodily harm
- Forcible confinement
- Assault cause bodily harm police
- Assault with intent to resist arrest

She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on Wednesday.
