Woman arrested for alleged donation bin arson

Police say security video shows a female setting fire to a mattress and box spring that were leaning against a donation bin

On Aug. 15, 2020, at approximately 6:53 p.m., Guelph Police responded to the report of a shipping container fire at commercial business on Elizabeth Street in the City of Guelph.  Security video shows a female setting fire to a mattress and box spring that were leaning against a donation bin.  The mattress and box spring quickly became engulfed causing significant damage to the container and property therein.  The female suspect fled on foot.  The Guelph Fire Department extinguished the fire.  Damage is estimated at $4,000. 

Guelph Police were able to identify the female suspect and have charged a 27 year old Guelph female with Arson.  The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on Nov. 20, 2020.
