Two Guelph residents face impaired driving charges following separate incidents just over two hours apart over the weekend.
Guelph police report that approximately 10:30 p.m. Friday an officer noticed a car stopped in the middle of University Avenue West straddling both lanes. The car moved slowly ahead before stopping abruptly, diagonally blocking all traffic.
A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was showing obvious signs of impairment. After failing a roadside screening test the driver was arrested and transported to the police station, where further testing confirmed she had more than the legal amount of alcohol in her system.
A 19-year-old Guelph woman is charged with impaired driving. Her driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days.
A short time later, just before 1 a.m. Saturday, an officer was driving on Elizabeth Street when he observed a car pulled over and a woman standing outside crying while a man tried to console her. The officer stopped to check their well-being and noted both parties showed signs of alcohol consumption. The man, who was identified as the driver, failed a roadside screening test and was transported to the police station, where testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
