A Guelph woman faces impaired driving charges after she was found Monday morning passed out in her rental vehicle, Guelph police say.

Approximately 11:45 a.m. police were called to the area of Farley Drive and Goodwin Drive. A passerby saw a woman sleeping in the driver’s seat of a running vehicle. The woman was awakened by the witness, but then immediately fell asleep again.

Officers arrived and observed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, including a glass pipe, baggie containing a white substance and tin foil. While speaking to the woman, officers noted signs of impairment including slow movements, poor concentration and difficulty staying awake.

A search of her property revealed baggies of suspected cocaine and fentanyl, as well as an unsealed container of cannabis.

The woman was transported to the police station where an officer determined her ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by consumption of a drug.

A 25-year-old woman is charged with impaired operation, two counts of possessing a controlled substance and having care of a vehicle with cannabis readily available.

Also on Monday, a Guelph man was charged with impaired driving following a driving complaint.

Police report that approximately 10:15 p.m. another motorist noted a vehicle being driven erratically and without lights on Gordon Street. The involved vehicle was located a short time later parked near Gordon Street and Wellington Street East.

An officer spoke to the driver and detected a strong odour of alcohol on his breath. The officer also noted an open can of beer at the driver’s feet which appeared to have spilled on the driver’s pants and seat.

The driver was arrested and transported to the police station, where tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 33-year-old man is charged with impaired driving and driving with open alcohol.
