DRAYTON – Drayton Festival Theatre has had its entire summer season cancelled amidst concerns of COVID-19 and to stay within physical distancing recommendations.

Parent company Drayton Entertainment announced this today in a press release saying the wellness of patrons, staff, artists, volunteers and the community to be most important.

“It’s sad and disappointing but we know this is the right decision,” CEO Alex Mustakas said in a press release. “Health and safety must come first.”

This summer would have marked the 30th anniversary of the company’s flagship venue in Drayton.

The theatre had already cancelled productions in the spring but now the cancellations extend to all shows up to Aug. 15.

Over the next several weeks, the company will be contacting ticket holders for refunds or credits.

Drayton Entertainment has also cancelled additional productions at its other venues across the province. The company explained in a press release that cancellations do not always follow chronological order because productions shift from venue to venue throughout the season.

At this time, 14 of the 18 productions in the 2020 season have been cancelled, along with all summer youth musical theatre programs and any special concert events or rentals scheduled through Sept. 5.

The status of each season production is outlined by the venue on the company’s website
