The County of Wellington is recommending the Township of Wellington North deny an application from a company that wants to establish an indoor cannabis cultivation and processing facility in Arthur.
Wellington North council will vote on the matter at Monday's meeting.
In a report to council, county planner Mattieu Daoust says the applicant, CCR Holdings Wells St Inc. has failed to address concerns raised by council members, the public and neighbouring businesses. It has also not to responded to a request from the county for additional clarifying information.
Odour and water consumption were top concerns raised at a March public meeting on the proposal.
The potential impact on employment opportunities and zoning issues were also discussed.
"Following the information session, planning staff had a follow-up meeting with the applicant’s consultants to highlight the above mentioned items requesting clarity on the proposed use and how the aforementioned concerns would be addressed. To date planning staff have not received any correspondence addressing the highlighted concerns," Daoust said in the report.
CCR Holdings Wells St Inc.'s plan for the facility involves retrofitting an existing 17,000 sq. ft building in an industrial area of Arthur. The proposed plant would be capable for housing around 400 plants.
