CW council remuneration and expenses up by over $15,000 in 2023

The mayor and councillors salaries increased by 11 per cent and 16 per cent respectively in 2023

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Council remuneration and expenses increased by over $15,000 in 2023 compared to the previous year. 

Totalling $219,418 in 2023, this included an 11 per cent raise for the mayor and 16 per cent raises for each councillor. 

Council remuneration totalled just under $203,000 in 2022

Mayor Shawn Watters made $51,326 in total. This doesn't include $9,708 for his work with Centre Wellington Hydro and $2,567 for the Grand River Conservation Authority. 

Each councillor made $23,716, not including meetings or expenses. 

Coun. Barb Evoy made $29,395 with $3,839 in expenses and $1,840 from meetings. 

With $2,923 in expenses, Coun. Bronwynne Wilton made $26,640 while Coun. Denis Craddock made $26,636 with $2,920 in expenses. Neither made anything from meetings. 

Coun. Kim Jefferson made $29,988 in total with $3,395 from meetings and $2,877 in expenses. 

Coun. Jennifer Adams, who also serves as the clerk for the County of Wellington made $25,611, with $1,840 from meetings and $55 in expenses. 

Coun. Lis MacDonald made $29,822 with $4,416 in expenses and $1,690 from meetings.

Last year, committee expenses totalled $14,282, including remuneration for members of the Committee of Adjustment and almost $10,000 in general expenses from the Heritage Committee. 

Council's non-payroll expenses were $17,254 and largely included costs associated with cell phones, the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO).
