PALMERSTON – A Guelph-and-Wellington-based company has applied to construct an industrial plaza and attract new business opportunities to Minto.

In a new report coming to council on Tuesday, staff are recommending councillors approve selling one acre of the Palmerston Industrial Park for $90,000 to Johnny Garth Wilson and Sarah Viola, or J&P Brothers Ltd., a company providing renovation, manufacturing and maintenance services to Guelph Non-Profit Housing and Wellington County.

A one-acre property located at 340 Minto Road, the Palmerston Industrial Park was owned by McLellan Industries before the town purchased it last May.

Now, J&P Brothers have applied to construct a 26,000 sq. ft. industrial plaza on the property with several units.

According to the report, the first phase of the project would see a 7,000 sq. ft building constructed with seven units and an additional 19,000 sq. ft would be added to the property over time.

The company currently plans to lease two of the seven units to continue its operations but said two are also potentially leased to other businesses.

Considering J&P Brothers employs 16 people in the various trades, staff anticipate more jobs will become available as more businesses lease the space.

The town would make $38,220 in development charges when the first phase is constructed.
