MAPLETON – The Township of Mapleton’s CAO is reassuring residents their drinking water system is completely safe.

Manny Baron, Mapleton CAO, penned a letter in response to a report outlining nearly $2 million in immediate repairs recommended at the Drayton and Moorefield water facilities.

“The report outlined several deficiencies ranging from seals on doors to corrosion on several of the valves and fittings,” Barron wrote.

“We understand this report has caused our residents to question the safety of the plant and the quality of the water. We want to assure you that your water is 100 per cent safe to consume and poses no threat to human health.”

Baron notes in his letter the Drayton and Moorefield drinking water systems have received 100 per cent ratings from Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) inspections.

The letter says at the beginning of this council term, staff were directed to improve and expand the township’s water and wastewater facilities to accommodate future growth.

During the information gathering process to guide decisions, the township proceeded with a conditions assessment study of the water system assets to examine deficiencies which led to the aforementioned report.

“We have invited Ontario Clean Water Agency to come discuss the findings at our next council meeting,” Baron wrote. “We want to ensure there is an opportunity to discuss the results and ensure we have a complete understanding of the next steps in the expansion of our water plant.”

Baron wrote the township is continuing to work on the treatment system and will keep residents informed about the township’s water quality.
