MOUNT FOREST – Sobeys is looking to build a new Foodland location for the north end of Mount Forest.

A planning report for a Monday Wellington North public meeting shows a new Foodland is proposed for Main Street in Mount Forest in a plaza that has a Beer Store and Peavey Mart.

Both stores will remain on site with the new 27,000 sq. ft. Foodland attached to the Peavey Mart.

Also included in the proposal is a new drive-thru restaurant building and replacement of the horse and buggy structure.

The purpose of the meeting is because a zoning amendment is required to reduce the minimum number of parking spaces and to reduce setbacks of the parking area and buggy shed.

In an email from Sobeys’ media team, it was confirmed that the old Foodland in Mount Forest will close and the same staff will shift to the new location assuming the site gets all necessary approvals.

The email said the new Foodland store will be a more modern shopping experience and have “greater offerings and product selection.”

The public meeting will be held virtually on Monday starting at 7 p.m.
