Number of county municipal employees on sunshine list rising

There were 129 employees from the County of Wellington or one of the seven member municipalities who made over $100,000 in 2022

WELLINGTON COUNTY – The number of Wellington County municipal employees making over $100,000 has risen over last year.

The annual sunshine list is out for 2022, which discloses the salary of public sector employees in the province who were paid at least $100,000.

There were 129 employees working for the County of Wellington or the seven lower-tier municipalities who made the list for 2022, up from 106 in 2021. 

CAOs were generally the highest paid employees at each respective municipality. 

County of Wellington CAO Scott Wilson was by far the highest paid, taking home a $283,432.40 salary last year. Wilson has been the CAO there since 1998. 

The County of Wellington had the most employees on the list with 71. 

Centre Wellington followed with 21 employees with CAO Dan Wilson topping the list at $191,806.59 last year. 

Nathan Hyde, CAO for the Town of Erin, was one of six in the town who made the list. He was paid $187,316 in 2022.

Of seven employees who made the list from Guelph/Eramosa, CAO Ian Roger was the top earner at $167,672.33. 

Puslinch CAO Glenn Schwendinger was paid $156,861.59 and was one of five from the township to make the sunshine list. 

Manny Baron, Mapleton’s CAO, took home $171,146 last year. There were six Mapleton employees who made the list.

Wellington North and Minto bucked the trend and did not have CAOs as the highest paid employees although both municipalities were without CAOs for a period of time or still are without one. 

Wellington North’s director of operations Matt Aston was the top earner of four employees there at $137,891.53. Of nine employees, Minto director of building and planning services Terry Kuipers took home the most with $146,323.57.

Local health care officials were also big earners. 

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health head Dr. Nicola Mercer and associate medical officer of health Dr. Matthew Tenenbaum were the highest earners in the region with $287,874.32 and $285,113.27 respectively. 

Groves Memorial Community Hospital CEO Angela Stanley was the highest earner there with a $228,794.80 salary in 2021.
