WELLINGTON NORTH - Wellington North council has agreed to fund $90,000 of the MTO connecting link program application of the resurfacing of Highway 6 from Conestoga to Wells Street in Arthur.
At Monday's council meeting, Matthew Aston, director of operations, stated that the proposed project will be more of a spot repair similar to that of the Arthur connecting link project the township did this past summer.
The proposed project scope will be approximately 900 metres of Highway 6 from Conestoga Street to Wells Street.
It will also include:
• Full depth asphalt removal and replacement, with a total depth of 140mm
• Gravel road base surface restoration prior to paving
• Remove and replace sections of curb that are in poor condition
• Remove and replace full depth asphalt boulevard/driveways behind the section of new curb
• Remove, rebuild and adjust sanitary & storm sewer frame and cover/grates
• Remove, rebuild and adjust water valve boxes to surface asphalt
• Repair and restoration areas of deficient subgrade
• Line painting
• Installation of accessible sidewalk ramps
“The total probable cost of the project will be $900,000. Provincial funding amount to be requested will be $810,000, and the township’s probable portion will be $90,000,” said Aston.
“This project is still in the earliest stage. If the Township’s connecting link application is approved, the intent is that this project would be constructed in 2023.”
Coun. Steve McCabe noted that many residents have wondered why the township stops in Arthur and why there haven’t been any expansions out in Wells Street.
“I know this is welcomed to see and I know the residents also want this project to occur,” said McCabe.
