LETTER: Wrong to judge our history by using current values

GuelphToday received the following letter from Drew F. MacDonald regarding Sir John A Macdonald:

When we arrived here in 1773, it was cold and barren. A new frontier in need of law and order.

By the time Sir John A. Macdonald and the fathers of confederation created our new great country. The basic initial articles of confederation and subsequent additions were appropriate for the times.

I understand and sympathize with those who suffered. The country's birth form was meant to change, progress and grow over time. The true culprits are just as much the politicians and citizens who did nothing for over a hundred years.

How convenient and hypocritical to look back on our forefathers of a different time with our new found present day values!

Look instead at your feet firmly planted in one of the best places to live in the world and be grateful.
