A Guelph man is out $5,000 after buying a van online and later learning it was stolen.

According to Guelph police, a man negotiated to buy parts for a 2021 GMC van through a popular buy and sell website, ultimately agreeing to purchase the vehicle outright for $5,000 cash.

He picked up the van from the Toronto area and towed it back to Guelph before becoming suspicious that it may have been stolen. After contacting Guelph police, the man learned the van was reported stolen in May.

Police seized the vehicle for forensic analysis; the investigation is ongoing.
