Alleged shoplifter held in custody after promising to steal again if released

A Guelph male was held for a bail hearing after reportedly telling officers he would steal again if released from custody Monday.

Approximately 2:50 p.m. Monday, Guelph police were called in regards to a shoplifter at a business on Wellington Street West. The male had selected alcohol and walked out making no attempt to pay. He was located by officers in the area and arrested.

While seated in the cruiser, the male demanded to be let go and said he would steal again once released.

A 33-year-old Guelph male is charged with theft under $5,000 and possessing stolen property under $5,000. He was held for a bail hearing Tuesday.
