Approximately $80K in lumber recovered after alleged fraud in Erin: OPP

TOWN OF ERIN — On Aug. 27, 2021, Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a reported fraud at a business in Erin. The victims had sold over $100,000 in lumber, and a week later, was advised that the transactions had been made using fraudulent credit card information.

As a result of the investigation, the owners and an associate of City Stairs, Thornhill, have been charged. Approximately $80,000 worth of lumber was recovered. 

Reuven Shmilov, 40-years-old of Richmond Hill, has been charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Trafficking in stolen goods over $5,000
  • Laundering proceeds of crime
  • Fraud over $5,000

Herzel Shmilov, 39-years-old of Vaughan, has been charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Trafficking in stolen goods over $5,000
  • Laundering proceeds of crime
  • Fraud over $5,000

Ruufat Chalmiev, 40-years-old of North York, has been charged with:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Trafficking in stolen goods over $5,000
  • Laundering proceeds of crime
  • Fraud over $5,000

All three accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph.
