Assault charge laid after man shot in face with BB gun

Police say the suspect also had a prohibited knife, meth and cocaine in his possession when they arrested him

A Guelph man faces assault and weapons charges after another man was shot in the face with a BB gun early Friday, Guelph police report.

Approximately 5:30 a.m. Friday, emergency services were called to the area of York Road and Cityview Drive South for reports of an injured man.

Investigation revealed the man had been sitting outside an address on York Road when another man known to him approached and shot him over the left eyebrow with a BB.

Approximately 3:20 p.m. Friday, officers located the wanted person leaving a downtown business where he had unsuccessfully attempted to sell the BB gun. The man was arrested and a search incident to arrest revealed a butterfly knife and suspected methamphetamine and cocaine.

A 50-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possessing a prohibited weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of possessing a controlled substance and several counts of breaching probation. He was held for a bail hearing.
