Guelph police are investigating an attempted carjacking in the city’s south end Monday evening.

Approximately 11:45 p.m., a 19-year-old Guelph male called police to report being assaulted. The male said he had just dropped a friend off in the area of Gordon Street and Clair Road East and was sitting in his motor vehicle when an unknown male got into the passenger seat and demanded the keys to the vehicle before punching him in the face.

The victim saw a second male standing near the vehicle and believed they were working together. The victim was able to run to a nearby gas station and call police. Both males were described as Caucasian and approximately six feet tall. One was wearing a blue shirt and the other a grey zip-up sweater.

They possibly left the area in a silver Toyota hatchback. No weapons were seen.

The victim’s motor vehicle was not stolen but he believes the suspects took his keys as well as a bag containing approximately $3,000 in designer clothing and shoes.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Const. Daniel Urbshas at 519-824-1212, ext. 7240, email him at [email protected], leave an anonymous message for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or leave an anonymous tip online at www.csgw.tips.
