B & E suspect arrested after four-hour standoff with police

A Guelph man has been arrested in connection with a theft of shoes this week, as well as two other residential break-ins.

Approximately 4 a.m. Tuesday a resident of Surrey Street West called police after finding someone in his home. The suspect fled with several pairs of shoes including distinctive Air Jordans.

Investigation led officers Tuesday afternoon to another nearby residence. After nearly four hours of negotiation a male was taken into custody.

Evidence was recovered related to the Surrey Street break and enter as well as two other recent residential break-ins. Officers also located a quantity of suspected methamphetamine.

A 23-year-old man is charged with three counts each of break and enter, possessing stolen property and breaching probation as well as possessing a controlled substance and failing to appear in court. He was held for a bail hearing.
