Blow torch used to break into parking lot coin machine

On April 26, 2019 at 12:30 a.m., Guelph Police went to the Homewood on Delhi Street to investigate the report that a parking lot coin machine had been damaged and coin box removed. The equipment was observed to have burn marks on it, possibly caused by a blowtorch. Homewood security had seen a man riding a bike with a trailer in the area shortly before this damage was found.

At 2 a.m., police located a man with a bike and trailer on York Road. Investigation discovered a blowtorch as well as evidence placing the man at the April 24, 2019 parking equipment damage and theft on Westmount Road. Police also located some tools that had been stolen from the April 16, 2019 Bagot Street incident. The man was arrested.

The 42-year-old Guelph man has been charged with two counts of theft under, two counts of possession of stolen property, two counts of mischief under and disguise with intent. He will appear in court on June 4, 2019.
