A 38-year-old break-and-enter suspect was arrested by Guelph police early Friday morning after reportedly fleeing the scene.

Approximately 2:50 a.m., police were alerted to a break and enter in progress in the north end of the city. The suspect is alleged to have been in the process of trying to steal $3,000 to $4,000 worth of tools.

Upon police arrival, the suspect fled on foot. A short time later, police located the suspect in a shopping plaza. The suspect is alleged to have given police a false name. Further investigation revealed his true identity and also the fact that the man was currently wanted for failing to comply with a release order, breaching a probation order and breaching a conditional sentence.

Further to the charges related to the warrant, the man was charged with break and enter and obstruct police. He was held for a bail hearing.
