One dead and SIU involved following south end collision this morning

Crash happened at Victoria and Clair Road Saturday morning

The province's police watchdog has invoked its mandate after a three-vehicle crash in Guelph.

Police say it was notified of the crash just before 10 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Victoria and Clair Road.

An Oxford County man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirm he was the driver of a yellow vehicle that can be seen flipped on its roof.

Two others were transported to hospital with minor injuries.

The front end of two vehicles involved – one in the intersection, the other about 30 feet away – on the scene sustained extensive damage. A truck involved was carrying a trailer.

Officials from the Special Investigations Unit are heading to the scene.

It's expected the road will be closed for several hours, so you're asked to plan an alternate.

The SIU invokes its mandate in incidents involving police where there's either been a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
