Call for assistance leads to impaired charge in Mapleton

Police say the complainant went to leave their friend's house who hung on the rear bumper to prevent them from leaving, but when police located the vehicle they determined the driver was impaired

On April 11, 2020, at approximately 8:50 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police responded to a call for assistance on Side Road 15 at Wellington Road 86 in the Township of Mapleton. 

The complainant advised that they were at their friend's residence and when they went to leave the friend was trying to hang on the rear bumper to prevent them from leaving the property. The complainant left the residence and has since pulled over to call police to report this behaviour.

Police located the vehicle and while speaking with the driver determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and they were placed under arrest. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Richard Brick, 57-years-old of St. Clements has been charged with impaired and impaired operation - 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code.  

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on July 28, 2020 to answer to the charges.
