Call from witness results in impaired driving charge

A Burlington man is facing impaired driving charges after a witness saw him repeatedly removing beers from the trunk of his car and consuming them in the parking lot of a Guelph business.

At approximately 5:05 p.m. the Guelph Police Service received a call about the male’s vehicle in the parking lot of a business on Woodlawn Road West near Woolwich Street. While the caller was on the phone, she saw the vehicle pull out onto Woodlawn Road West.

Police stopped the vehicle a short time later. The driver was arrested after failing a roadside breath demand.

A 38-year-old Burlington male is charged with impaired operation and impaired operation – blood alcohol content. His driver’s license was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He will appear in court January 29, 2021.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to always consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.
