The case of a Kitchener MP facing multiple charges is being held over until Sept. 25 for a formal Crown pre-trial continuation.

Marwan Tabbara is facing a total of four charges, including assault and criminal harassment.

The matter was spoken to in a hearing conducted in a Guelph courtroom by phone on Friday. Tabbara did not appear on the call but was represented by his defence team led by Scott Hutchison.

Tabbara is the member of parliament for the riding of Kitchener South-Hespeler. He was a member of the Liberal party when arrested. He is now sitting as an independent.

He was arrested in Guelph on April 9.

Details of the arrest were not made public until June 5.

A recent freedom of information request by GuelphToday showed Guelph Police were aware the arrest of Tabbara may cause a ‘media frenzy’ but senior management were not immediately made aware of the arrest.

Guelph Police has refused to discuss the matter.

In the email conversations received as part of the FOI, Guelph Police members noted it was not their practice to release domestic disturbance calls in the daily police blotter sent to media.
