City police report spate of weekend break and enters and a home invasion

On August 4, 2017, the Guelph Police Service went to a Carden Street address to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered a storage area and stole four bicycles. On August 5, 2017 at 3:15pm Guelph Police were called to a Norfolk Street address, where there was a report of a suspicious male. Police located the male and initiated an investigation into what he was doing in the neighbourhood. As a result of the investigation, Oscar Janssens, a 42-year-old Guelph male, was arrested for Break and Enter, attempt theft, theft and breaching his recognizance. Once arrested, Janssens was further charged with possession of a controlled substance.

He is scheduled to make a court appearance on August 8, 2017.

On August 6, 2017, Guelph Police were called to a Silvercreek Parkway South property, where there was a report of a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered into the building and stole a laptop computer. Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to contact Cst. On August 6, 2017, the Guelph Police Service went to Cassino Avenue to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered a storage locker and stole a bicycle. On August 6, 2017 at approximately 5:15am four victims were inside their apartment on Kathleen Street, when two suspects forced their way in and brandished weapons while demanding their cell phones and wallets. Two of the victims subsequently engaged the suspects into a physical altercation and that resulted in the two suspects being arrested by police on their arrival. 

A 19 and a 26-year-old male have been charged with numerous criminal code offences and are being held for a bail hearing.

On August 7, 2017 at approximately 3:50pm, a third person, a 20-year-old Guelph male, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and assault cause bodily harm. He was given a September 12, 2017 court date.
