Collision leads to impaired charges for Hamilton driver

Reports indicate the accused drove into a ditch on Southgate Drive

On Dec. 23, 2019 at approximately 5:20 a.m., Guelph police were called to Southgate Drive where there was a report of a single motor vehicle collision. Initial reports indicated that a vehicle veered off the roadway and into a ditch.

Police arrived and spoke to the driver, who is alleged to have alcohol on his breath. The male was asked to provide a sample of his breath into the roadside device, which he failed. As a result of the investigation, the 22-year-old Hamilton driver was arrested and charged with impaired driving, blood alcohol level over 80, possession of a prohibited weapon (collapsible baton) and further Cannabis Act and Liquor Licence Act charges.
