Collision leads to impaired driving, weapons charges

Police say the accused was in possession of an edged weapon

On Nov. 1, 2019 at approximately 8:45 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on the southbound ramp of the Hanlon Expressway.

While police were speaking with the driver they formed the opinion that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and they were placed under arrest.

During the course of the investigation, the driver was found to be in possession of an edged weapon which was seized. Further investigation revealed that the driver was bound by conditions not to consume alcohol and not to possession any weapons.

Ri Chuochamroeun, 33-years-old of Guelph has been charged with impaired operation, impaired operation - 80 plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood), possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, and failing to comply with conditions of undertaking X2 contrary to the Criminal Code.

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused was held for a bail hearing.
