Collision leaves cyclist with serious injuries

Members of the Guelph Police Service, Guelph Fire and the Guelph Wellington Paramedic Services responded to a personal injury collision at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, 2020. It was learned that a cyclist, a 57-year-old Guelph male, was northbound in the left turn lane of Edinburgh Road North approaching the intersection of Speedvale Avenue West when he was struck from behind by a northbound motor vehicle operated by a 27-year-old Brantford resident.

The cyclist was transported to the Guelph General Hospital. However, he suffered injuries that required him to be air lifted by Air Ornge to a trauma centre in London. While the injuries are serious, the cyclist is expected to survive. The driver of the motor vehicle was not injured in the collision.

Members of the Guelph Police Service Traffic and Identification Units attended to investigate the scene which required the roadway to be closed for approximately three hours.
