Disturbance leads to impaired, assault police charges

Police say a male causing a disturbance and refusing to wear a mask had been in a single vehicle collision

On June 23, 2020, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Guelph Police Service were called to a disturbance at a business located near Wellington Street West and Imperial Road in the City of Guelph.   A male was causing a disturbance and refusing to wear a mask.  Police arrived and found the male to be in an intoxicated state.  Further investigation revealed that at approximately 8:55 p.m., the male had been operating a motor vehicle and had been involved in a single vehicle collision on Laird Road in the County of Wellington. 

The male was placed under arrest for Impaired Operation and transported to Hospital as a precaution.  While at the Hospital, as officers escorted the male to a washroom, the male assaulted one of the Officers.

A 19 year old Cambridge male has been charged with: 

  • Operation While Impaired,
  • Operation While Impaired – Excess Blood Alcohol,
  • Fail to Stop After an Accident
  • Assault Police. 

The accused is schedule to appear in Guelph Court on Sept. 25, 2020.
