Wellington County OPP warn of mystery shopper scam

WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP –Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is warning job seekers of the “Mystery Shopper” ad scam.

Early this month a Wellington North Township resident answered an on-line advertisement to be a “Mystery Shopper” and received a cheque for $2,800 with information on shopping tasks to complete.

The victim deposited the cheque in his or her bank account, and then used some of the money to buy products as a “Mystery Shopper.”

The victim was told to deposit the cash into an account at a different bank.  A few days after completing the tasks, the victim found out that the cheque was counterfeit and was accountable for the money sent and withdrawn.

Remember if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.
