Driver accused of travelling 170 km/h in an 80 km/h zone

On Monday, Oct. 22, 2018 at approximately 1:05 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting LIDAR speed enforcement and monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Expressway near Laird Road in Guelph. The officer observed a male driving a white sedan at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on lidar at 140m/h in an 80 km/h zone. The vehicle's speed increased to over 170 km/h prior to being stopped.

Twenty-three-year-old Ranbir Uppal of Brampton has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Dec. 5, 2018. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

On Friday, Oct. 19, 2018 at approximately 9:30 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting LIDAR speed enforcement and monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Expressway near Laird Road in Guelph. The officer observed a male driving a black sedan at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on lidar in excess of 140m/h.

Twenty-five-year-old Omar Abdou of Mississauga has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Dec. 5, 2018. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
