Driver charged with impaired blows four times the legal limit

A Guelph male faces charges after he was caught driving Monday with more than four times the legal limit of alcohol in his system, say Guelph police.

Shortly before noon, police were alerted to a possible impaired driver in the area of Victoria Road North and Grange Street. A witness described the vehicle swerving all over the road and the driver’s head bobbing up and down.

Officers saw the vehicle pulling into an address on Victoria Road North. The driver was showing signs of impairment and was unable to understand simple commands. He was arrested and taken to the police station, where breath tests revealed the male had more than four times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A 45-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired operation and impaired operation – blood alcohol concentration. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court August 27.
