Driver charged with impaired following crash with loaded horse trailer

Witnesses say that the pick-up truck and trailer were stopped at a stop sign and began completing a turn when they were rear-ended by the sedan

TOWN OF ERIN - On Sept. 6, 2019 at approximately 8:10 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle on the Ninth Line at Side Road 5 involving a pick-up truck pulling a loaded horse trailer and a sedan.  Witnesses reported that the pick-up truck and trailer were stopped at the stop and started to complete a turn when it was rear-ended by the sedan that was being driven by a possible impaired driver.

Officers attended the scene and while speaking with the driver determined that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and they were placed under arrest. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Rakesh Tahiliani, 45-years-old of Mississauga has been charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired - 80 plus contrary to the Criminal Code. The accused will appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Oct. 11, 2019 to answer to the charges.

A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.
