A 29-year-old Guelph man faces several charges, including impaired driving, following a pair of Wednesday morning collisions.

The first occurred at about 8:30 p.m. in a parking lot on Conroy Crescent, where a vehicle struck another car while reversing out of a parking spot. A Guelph police news release states a witness reported the driver, who left the scene, was possibly impaired.

Ten minutes later, police learned of a collision on Wellington Street West, near Edinburgh Road South, where a vehicle struck a stopped car, pushing it into a third vehicle.

The driver of the car sustained minor neck and back injuries but declined medical attention.

Two vehicles were heavily damaged.

“Officers spoke to the responsible driver, who was not injured but was showing signs of being impaired by a drug,” the release explains. “The male was transported to the police station, where an officer trained in performing drug evaluations concluded his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by the consumption of a drug.”

Blood samples were collected for further evaluation.

The accused is charged with impaired driving, careless driving and failing to remain at the scene of a collision. In addition, his driver’s licence was automatically suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for a week.
