Driver charged with travelling 60 km/h over speed limit

Vehicle was locked on radar at more than 100 km/h in a 40 zone

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON – On Sept. 16, 2020 at approximately 1 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar on Wellington Road 19 near Tom Street in Fergus. 

The officer observed a white van travelling eastbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 40 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 100 km/h.  

As a result, Caleb Whittaker, a 29-year-old resident of Waterloo, has been charged with Racing a motor vehicle and speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

The defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph at the Ontario Court of Justice - Provincial Offences Court on Dec. 2, 2020.

Their vehicle and driver's licence were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
